Nurturing Wonder in the Heart of the Home
Home education is about far more than the lessons we complete around the school table. Charlotte Mason described education as “an atmosphere, a discipline, a life,” and that understanding has deeply shaped the way I approach homeschooling my own children.
Books and lessons certainly matter. But so do the habits we cultivate, the ideas we encounter, our conversations around the table, time spent observing the natural world, the beauty we bring into our homes, and the life of faith we share as a family.
Here, I share what I’m learning through our own Classical Charlotte Mason education, along with practical encouragement for choosing living books, planning lessons, combining children when it makes sense, cultivating good habits, and creating an education that is both rich and sustainable for real family life.
My hope is not to offer another formula for the “perfect” homeschool. Rather, I hope to help mothers understand the principles behind a living education so they can thoughtfully apply them within the particular needs of their own families.
Classical Education
Explore an education rooted in the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, where children encounter worthy ideas and learn to think deeply about the world around them. Classical education looks beyond simply acquiring information, seeking instead to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and a lifelong love of what is true and good.
Mother’s Scholé
The education of our children doesn’t mean the end of our own. Mother’s Scholé is an invitation for the mother-teacher to continue cultivating her intellectual and spiritual life through good books, thoughtful study, contemplation, and the pursuit of wisdom.
As we continue learning and growing alongside our children, we nourish our own minds and souls while becoming better prepared for the work God has given us within our homes.
